• Bosch sets record in diesel technology
• Produces 100 millionth Common-Rail injectors for passenger cars globally in 2005

New Delhi, January 13, 2006: Modern diesel engines with direct injection offer great driving safety and excitement due to their high torque at low speed. At the same time, the engines give great satisfaction due to their excellent economy. So when driving a diesel car, the driver can get dynamics, driving pleasure and economy at a high level. This development has been decisively influenced by Common Rail Systems, pioneered by Bosch.

The100 millionth Common-Rail injector for passenger cars recently came off the Bosch assembly lines in Europe last year. This production output documents the outstanding success of the Common-Rail system which was launched by Bosch in 1997. Some 23 million passenger cars have been fitted with BOSCH CRS until this day. In 2005, Bosch produced some 26 million Common-Rail injectors for passenger car engines in seven locations across three continents.

Diesel engines are enjoying an increasing share in the global market due to their great fuel economy and low pollution. Vehicles with diesel engines consume about 30 percent less fuel than comparable vehicles with gasoline engines. The prices for diesel fuel in India are generally lower than gasoline. Diesel engines also are low pollutants.

A testimony to the above is Bosch’s 3rd generation of Common Rail Systems launched in 2003 in Germany, with innovative piezo-inline technology and a system pressure of 1,600 bar. The third generation of the Common-Rail system with innovative piezo-inline injectors is currently being manufactured at the Bosch plant in Bamberg, Germany as well as in two other European locations. Bosch will upgrade this generation to system pressures of up to 2,000 bar for a further reduction of pollutants.
