Bosch ventures into the DIY tools segment of India
DIYs will make homes function faster & simpler
Bangalore, April 15, 2005: Bosch Power Tools, a division of the 40 billion euro Bosch Group worldwide, today announced the DIY (Do-It-Yourself) concept as part of its business strategy to expand its footprints in India. The range from Bosch consists of dynamic tools
like SMART Home kit, IXO and AQUATAK. The tools have been specially designed to help self-usage to execute jobs at home ranging from drilling, screwing, fixing to cleaning, instead of calling a carpenter, electrician or cleaner. Bosch is the world leader in the power tools segment and has been the pioneer in DIY across different countries, including India.
The world power tools industry is valued over $9 billion. The Power tools market is driven by the professional range and DIY range, with the DIY tools consumption delivering higher relative growth. Global demand for power tools is expected to rise nearly six percent yearly through 2007, driven by accelerating economic activity and rising demand for cordless tools. Demand will benefit from infrastructure-building projects and rising living standards in developing regions and the rapid development of Asian economies such as China and India.
“The decisive advantage for Bosch DIY Tools is innovation. One such example is the IXO, the world’s first Lithium ion battery powered screwdriver from Bosch. The state-of-the-art rechargeable battery technology used in laptops, cell phones and digital cameras were
introduced in Power tools. This ushered small and light DIY tools which could be carried around and perform tough applications in your home. The success of the IXO and other DIY products in Bosch has been based on the fact that innovation was introduced by directly
addressing the users.” according to Mr. Navin Paul, Business Head, Bosch Power Tools, India.
The Bosch DIY Power tools have grown in its range, to cover a wide variety that suits different applications for home and help perform different functions like drilling, screwing, cutting, sawing, grinding, polishing etc with efficiency, reliability and easy handling. It can be
used for light, medium or tough work both indoors and outdoors. The company plans to introduce these products in India using a phased approach. “The company plans to continue its innovation strategy by developing both completely new products as well as helpful
improvements in the established power tools range,” Mr. Paul added.
The Power Tools market in India is worth Rs 300 crores and is growing at a rate of around 12% per year, with the overall economic growth, investments in infrastructure and modernizing construction practices. Bosch Power Tools is planning to capture 40% share of
the power tools market in India by 2006. In India, Bosch is a market leader in the professional Power Tools segment that was launched in 1993 and it wants to repeat this success in the DIY segment as well.
Bosch Power Tools sells its products and services in almost all countries across the globe and operates manufacturing plants in eleven countries.
