Mico celebrates World Environment Day
Bangalore, June 6, 2005: As part of the World Environment Day celebrations, Mico, a flagship company of the EURO 40 billion Bosch Group in India, held a special lecture on the importance of greenery, followed by prize distribution for a painting competition for 400 children from the Munichinappa Government School held last week. The celebrations were held at Mico’s headquarters in Bangalore. Residents in and around Mico premises, NGOs including Suchi Mitra and EcoWatch and over a 1000 schoolchildren participated in the event.
Speaking on this occasion Sri Ramalinga Reddy, Honourable Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, highlighted the need for developing and maintaining greenery in view of the rapid urbanization taking place in cities especially Bangalore. He also emphasized on
careful waste management in cities which is emerging as a major threat to the urban environment. “Take care of your environment”, Sri Reddy added. He urged Mico to contribute by spearheading improvements in the neighbouring areas.
Also present on the occasion was noted environmentalist, Sri Suresh Heblikar who pointed out the serious consequences for the future generations if proper planning was not done in the urban areas. He raised concerns about the depleting water resources in and around Bangalore city and urged the Government to adopt sustainable development plans for all major projects.
Sharing Mico’s initiatives towards preserving the environment, Lakshminarayan M, Joint Managing Director, Mico, said, ”Mico has always been conscious and responsible about environment protection. We have implemented several innovative solutions in our manufacturing processes that meet the stringent international environmental standards.
