Unique technology fest for engineering students
On Track 2, a student based, technology event was set in Bangalore in Oct. 2009. Around 850 students, 50 professors from 30 colleges and universities across India were invited to enjoy this illustrative opportunity, to experience first-hand the innovations of Bosch.
On Track 2 aimed to provide a touch-and-feel, real-time experience of Bosch technologies to students. Young engineers were exposed to understand what careers in technical functions in a technology driven company like Bosch really means.
Nurturing talents
For students, the conversations and hands-on moments were enriching, and far beyond textbook experience. They got valuable assistance for their projects, and at various instances wanted to identify the components themselves. They were amazed by the number of patents that Bosch registers on an average, fostering ideas by investing heavily in research and development. The built-in environment-friendly functionalities of products echoed their own concerns.
Utilizing simulators, product models and test drives, Bosch engineers explained the development, intricacies and workings of life saving Antilock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP), fuel saving Start/stop systems, environment friendly Diesel and Gasoline Fuel Injection system, comfort and safety features of Common Rail System, innovations for the Low Priced Vehicle (LPV) segment and latest car navigation systems. Students enjoyed test drives with India’s dream car Nano and garnered a sea of information from 19 stalls.
Tours to the Common Rail System manufacturing facility provided further close insights into comparative advantages of Bosch technologies, as well as into tasks and responsibilities of production engineers.
Also on show, were five vintage cars fitted with Bosch products, the oldest one a Mercedes built in 1928. These classy marvels presented a glance into Bosch history and the company founder’s close cooperation with automotive pioneers. They showed how Bosch has bettered every generation of components!
What it means to work with Bosch?
The answer to this is the philosophy, pertinently demonstrated at On Track 2. For engineers, to work with Bosch is to be exposed to futuristic, intensive research based environments which encourage and offer knowledge space to new ideas. On Track 2 worked to ignite passion for technology.
A collaborative effort of all Bosch subsidiaries in India, On Track 2 was the third such major event organized by Bosch for the student community. The second was conducted at Chennai Race Track in March 2008, and the first at Shaastra 2007, an annual technology fest organized solely by students of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Chennai.
