Bosch wins races
Bosch is on board when the world's strongest teams assemble at the starting line. Bosch racing specialists know all the details and how they interact and provide professional support for the teams and their technology at every point in time. Their perfectly tuned components provide the precondition for outstanding technical performance.

Racing is teamwork. With their experience and know-how, many specialists make sure that every detail is right. Bosch engineers support engine builders and racing teams from the first stages of development onwards. With 100 years racing experience, Bosch Motorsport Service is the valued partner of many successful racing teams.

Successful coaching
Bosch racing professionals already analyze vehicle constructions for strengths and weaknesses during development to make sure the technology is adjusted perfectly on the day of the race. And they supply the right components for excellent interplay between engine, gearbox, suspension and brakes.

Particular attention is devoted to the engine. The Motronic engine management system permits very flexible fine-tuning of ignition and mixture formation. Bosch specialists for optimal performance management literally “program” the engine.

But high performance not only means making engines more powerful. Technologies that lower fuel consumption, for example, can also generate decisive time leads – by shorter or fewer fuelling stops. Another key element is transmission adjustment: Only if the gears are adapted perfectly to both engine characteristics and driving behavior, will the driver be able to accelerate optimally from bends and save those decisive tenths of a second. All details must interact supremely for the components to generate the performance that will define the outcome of the race.

Advanced software
The Bosch Motorsport team also brings along the right development tools needed to perfect racing cars. One of them is the race simulation software LapSim which sends racing cars on a virtual race course. First, the basic settings of the vehicle are entered in the computer, and then the test course to be driven is selected. Now individual parameters can be changed and the computer immediately calculates the impact on possible lap times. Green light for use on the race course is given only once the right setting has been found in the computer.

Success by coordination

Maximum performance, load capacity and reliability as well as the lowest possible weight are what counts for every one of even the smallest components under the hood of a racing car.

This is where Bosch’s system expertise for series cars comes into play. Bosch series components for ignition, fuel supply, mixture formation and sensor technology embody so much experience and development that they form the ideal basis for racing car technology. The motorsport experts from Bosch systematically redesign and optimize them for racing conditions, to ensure they work perfectly and reliably under extreme temperatures, vibrations and acceleration forces.

Bosch also manufactures customized devices – for example the displays. Racing car displays have little in common with conventional dashboards. They are highly flexible and freely programmable LCD displays that show the driver all relevant information in a single glance.

The winner matrix
To leave the competition behind, racing drivers need to adjust to changing circumstances at lightning speed. But how are they to notice changes in their vehicle if their full concentration turns on the track and their rivals? The Bosch Telemetrics system offers the solution. During the race, engine, tire pressure and fuel consumption data are encoded and delivered to a computer system. How many laps will the fuel still last? Is engine temperature still in the unproblematic range? Are tire defects likely? When will it be time for the next box stop? The telemetric data keep the team and Bosch engineers briefed at all times, so that they can take decisions that may lead the driver to victory.
